This is a 1927 Bugatti replica car.
Not a match box kit car, but a licensed replica from Bugatti.
I’ve posted a couple of pictures of it, but never really gave the back story on how we found this awesome car, and for dirt cheap.
I have a very good friend from high school, and her father is head of the Mazda car club.
At some point my Boyfriend became known as the Volkswagen Beetle guy. So my friend’s father passed along to me that he knew a guy who had lots and lots of bug parts.
We called this summer, and he was on vacation. He never called back .
Well, not until around mid November. This guy, were going to call him Old Greg from here on, called my boyfriend and said he was willing to talk.
My boyfriend came back from old Greg’s house so excited he was shaking. Apparently Old Greg is a hoarder.
Old Greg doesn’t hoard crap though. This isn’t A&E, there was no moldy food, or  ventriloquism dummies like that one episode. No no, Greg hoarders hoarders Volkswagen Bug parts.
I went a couple of days later to check it out for myself. Now Steven tried to prepare me, but as you can probably tell, I’ve seen my fair share of episodes of Hoarders. So I brushed off Steven’s warnings.
……It was Madness! Old Greg has a three story old Victorian with a two story barn in the back. Both the house and the barn are filled to the point where you can barely walk through the house. Old Greg is a wiry older man, and has made small paths through the house, just big enough for him to slide through. So walking through the house, my boobs knocked into piles, making mountains of stuff avalanche. Old Greg wouldn’t even turn around when this happened.
We were already walking on top of other stuff as we made our way through the house. At some point I found the floor, it was buried under about a foot of  stuff. Bpxes of car parts, rail road tracks, a wave runner in pieces, toasters x10,and that was just some of the stuff we were walking on.
Old Greg bought the house with his wife about 20 years ago. They planned on growing old together and retiring in that house. So they filled it with everything they loved. All of the bug parts were for the cars he wanted to build. He has an attic full of sewing machines so he could do all of the upholstery.
(before Mr. Threadbear starts, there were two industrial sewing machines in the attic. I bought them both)
He has all of the equipment to blow glass, and not the cheap stuff. He has crates of glass, CRATES! He doesn’t even know how to blow glass. But he planned on learning.
At some point his wife said it was her or the stuff.
He choose the stuff.
This car was in the barn, in wooden box a little bigger than the car. It had to be in the box, or else it would be covered in stuff, like the two other cars in his barn.
The barn was pitfall. Like the Nintendo game. Steven and I were climbing, swinging, and jumping through this place. The second floor of the barn had big holes in the ground, but they were surrounded by crap. So you could barely see them. Steven would try to get to one side of the barn, and end up burying himself were he couldn’t get out. I would have to come dig him out.
Its been a really odd experience all and all. Old Greg is a really nice guy. Hes smart, funny, and most of all NOT CRAZY. Old greg lost his job because he hurt his back, and just started going under on the house. So he has to sell his house…
…Could you imagine walking into a house like that? Well neither could anyone else. The real estate agent set up tours, but every appointment took one look at the yard and ran.
Steven took out friend Rich to look at the house, (Rich owns the two 1947 Ford Master Deluxe in our back yard)
Rich just got married to a wonderful women, and they are looking to buy a house.
Well, they fell in love with it. It helps that it was ridiculousness cheap.
(About $40,000. Which is crazy low for a three story house with a two story barn. The had it listed for much more, but couldn’t get any buyer. When Rich spoke with the Realtor she said all of the stuff came with the house. Old Greg is going to live with his parents out in Ohio. His parents believe he has a sickness, and they are trying to save him from it.)
Well, rich couldn’t get the house. The insurance agency sent out an inspector to check out the house before the sale closed, and he couldn’t get into the house!
Well we bought the bugatti, and another 1966 VW bug.
Steven and I are still heading back and forth trying to help Old Greg pack and get ready to leave.
Its been quite the experaince!!
